It was late at night as I knelt down by my daughter’s bed. As I had done for the last several months, I cried out to God for healing. I c...

Proof of God (part 1)
September 23, 2016
In the movie A Few Good Men, Col. Jessep is on the witness stand when LTJG Kaffee tells him “I want the truth!” Col. Jessep’s face turns red as he yells back “You want the truth. You can’t handle the truth.”
Well we aren’t in a courtroom, but we want the truth about God and, unlike LTJG Kaffee, we can handle it. It’s the world that can’t handle the truth about God. It’s the world that belittles Christians for their faith. It’s the world that ignores the evidence behind our faith. Yet the world seems to have the upper hand precisely because Christians don’t seem to understand the evidence for God. Have you ever encountered a non-believer, say we call him Professor Wrongbucket, walk up to you and say, “How can you believe in an invisible God who’s existence cannot be tested by science. It’s all a fairy tale for the weak minded.” A challenge like that would send a lot of Christians running when they don’t have to because everything Professor Wrongbucket just said is provablely wrong. I will show you why the world’s position is wrong and the Christian’s belief in God is provablely true in a series of blog posts over the next few months.
To start I’ll skip over, for the moment, Professor Wrongbucket’s comment that God is invisible (He’s not) and get right to the heart of the matter. Professor Wrongbucket claims that “[God’s] existence cannot be tested by science.” Here is where Professor Wrongbucket earns his name because not only can God’s existence be tested by science, when those tests (there is more than one) are applied it proves that God exists.
A quick roadmap. Part 1 will only look at where those tests are applied. In Part 2 I’ll start to look at the various tests and their results.
Okay let’s get started. If (and it’s a big if as far as I’m concerned) God is invisible as Professor Wrongbucket claims that doesn’t take Him out of the range of scientific testing. Science has proved the existence of many things that cannot be seen. Take atoms for one or elementary particles or quarks or even the Higgs boson. We know these things exist because science is able to reason backwards from observed effects. We can do exactly the same thing to prove God exists.
So what observed effects can we reason backwards from to prove the existence of God you ask (well, maybe you didn’t ask but you should have it’s the obvious question)? That’s easy, the world around us. In fact that is exactly where God tells us to look. In Romans 1:20 He says:
For since the creation of the world His invisible
attributes, His eternal power and divine nature,
have been clearly seen, being understood through
what has been made, so that they are without excuse
In the Old Testament the same hint is given in Psalm 19:1:
The heavens are telling of the glory of God; And their
expanse is declaring the work of His hands.
So that’s what we will do and in Part 2 I’ll tell you what we discover right out of the gate much to Professor Wrongbucket’s dismay.
I'm busy working on my blog posts. Watch this space!
